INVITATIONAL TRAVEL TO CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND, AND PARIS, FRANCE

{

l You have been invited to attend and present a paper at a conference sponsored l

by both MIT and Cambridge University in Cambridge, England.

I believe that it l

is important and in the best interest of the agency for you to attend this i

meeting. A major portion of the conference will be focused on the centrifuge testing conducted at Cambridge for the liquefaction research being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the NRC.

This program has been under your direction for.the past three years (Contract No.79-115, FIN B7002). The principal investigators from the Corps of Engineers will be present to discuss.

the finding of our research program.

Furthermore, Lc the conclusion of the conference, it would be advantageous to the NRC for you to proceed to France to meet with your counterparts at the CEA, Fontenay-aux-Roses, France, to prepare a final draft of an interagency agreement to conduct a jointly funded seismic experiment at Anza, California.

Since you have been the principal negotiator in developing this agreement, it would be best to have you complete this effort at that time.

However,Irecognizethepossibilityexiststhathu~mayretirebeforeeither the conference July 9, 10, and 11, 1986, or the meeting scheduled with the CEA i

on July 15 and 16, 1986 takes place.

Since it would be in the best interest of the NRC that you attend these meetings either as an employee or as a retired-annuitant, you should plan to do so.

If you have retired before either of these meetings, the NRC will pay for all transportation, per diem, and miscellaneous expenses associated with this travel. Upon your return to the U.S. you will furnish the NRC with a trip report of your activities.

If you agree to attend these meetings under these conditions if you have retired before then, please indicate by signing this 8603250317 860314 PDR RES 8503250317 PDR
