Docket No. 50-412 APPLICANT: Duquesne Light Company (DLC)

FhCILITY: Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit 2 (BVPS-2)

SUBJECT:

FIRE PROTECTION MEETING

SUMMARY

On April 19, 1984, the staff met with the applicant and representatives from Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation (SWEC) to discuss fire protection open items in the BVPS-2 draft SER. The meeting was held in Bethesda, MaryTand.

The agenda and meeting attendees are attached as Enclosures 1 and 2 respectively.

DLC first presented their draft responses to the thirteen open items (#82-#94).

Subsequent to a discussion on each of the items, the following were determined confirmatory:

  1. 32 Fire harard analysis
  1. 83 Fire brigade
  1. 90 Fire detection
  1. 92A Capacity of drain tank of oil collection system
  1. 93 Control room complex The following five items remain open and require additional interaction between the staff and OLC:
  1. 85 Safe shutdown
  1. 86 Alternate shutdown
  1. 87 Hydrogen piping
  1. 89 Power supplies for control room ventilation
  1. 94 Cable spreading room Open item #94 will require additional efforts from the staff and applicant in order to resolve this issue. The current status of all fire protection items is listed in Enclosure 3. Those noted as closed are closed pending formal submittal of the responses discussed. Open items #91 and #928 are closed, but require minor additions. It is the staff's preference for the submittal to be in the form of an amendment to the FSAR or the Fire Protection Evaluation Report. In DLC's formal response letter, they will indicate in which of these two documents each item will be addressed.

DLC also identified two items of concern: the absence of a UL label on fire dampers resulting from an alternate installation configuration, and wrapping ventilation ductwork of newly identified fire areas.
