NRC TELEPHONE CONTACT FOR LICENSE NO. SNM-1366 l
Dear Mr. Safran:
l This refers to a telephone contact conducted on May 21 and 22,1997. The purpose of l
the contact was to determine whether activities authorized by the license were conducted l safely and in accordance with NRC requirements. The contact consisted of discussions l between your Radiation Safety Officer, Cheryl Culver-Schultz, and Thomas Young of my I staff.
Although no cited vio:ations were identified, a regulatory concern was noted legarding l contact with patients who still have implanted pacemakers. We understand that you will ensure that the three former patients who wear nuclear powered pacemakers that were implanted by the authorized users are monitored as to location to ensure that the devices are retrieved and retu-ned to the manufacturer at some point in time. We also understand that the patients will be reminded to continue to wear the identification bracelet and carry the identification wallat card that was issued to them earlier. These items contain instructions to return the device to the manufacturer.
l From the May 22,1997, telephone conversation, we understand that your Radiation Safety Officer will determine the current status of each of these former patients so that the devices can be returned to the manufacturer at the appropriate time.
