FUTURE NRC INSPECTION OF SOR

Dear Mr. Turney:

t This letter confirms the dates of June 16 through 20, 1997, for an NRC inspection of SOR.

These dates were established in a telephone call i

between you and Mr. Anil S. Gautam of the NRC on June 2,1997.

We plan to assess the adequacy of your corrective actions concerning SOR i

safety-related switches regarding (1) leakage of 0-ring seals in vacuum switches exposed to radiation and elevated temperatures (SOR information notice, dated April 1,1993, to all nuclear power plant qualified vacuum switch users), (2) defective conduit seals in pressure, vacuum, and temperature switches (SOR information notice to the NRC, dated June 10, 1994, and (3) cracked insulation on the lead wires of pressure, vacuum, and temperature switches (SOR Part 21 notification, dated October 14,1994).

We also plan to assess specific attributes and implementation of your quality assurance and 10 CFR Part 21 reporting program, and whether licensees effectively monitored your control of. quality for the safety-related pressure, vacuum, and temperature switches purchased by licensees for commercial nuclear power. plants.
