SUBJECT:

CLOSEOUT OF USER NEED REQUEST NSIR-2014-002 TO PERFORM APPLIED RESEARCH TO INFORM NUCLEAR PLANT EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS REGULATORY OVERSIGHT The purpose of this memorandum is to inform you that we have completed the activities for User Need Request (UNR) NSIR-2014-002 (ADAMS ML14171A436) to perform applied research to enhance NRC guidance for evacuation time estimate (ETE) studies. Our response to the UNR is available in ADAMS under ML14268A525.

In accordance with UNR NSIR-2014-002, we examined several technical areas of evacuation modeling and the findings incorporated into a NUREG to serve as the technical basis for the revision of NUREG/CR-7002, Criteria for Development of Evacuation Time Estimate Studies.

You can use this information to enhance the NRC guidance for the standardization of ETEs and to provide direction of recommended methods to licensees. We completed the final deliverable for this UNR on March 31, 2020, by publishing NUREG/CR-7269, Enhancing Guidance for Evacuation Time Estimate Studies (ADAMS accession no. ML20070M158).

RES established an online quality survey to collect feedback from user offices on the usefulness of RES products and services. This survey can be found online at the RES Quality Survey. I would appreciate the responsible manager or supervisor completing this shortabout 5 minutessurvey within the next 10 working days to present your offices views of the delivered RES product.
