SUBJECT:

Environmental Qualification of CRDM Assembly

REFERENCE:

NRC Letter Martin to Lee Dated July 19,1985(G-85288)

Dear Mr. Butcher:

This letter is to confirm a commitment date stated in Item 11, of the reference letter as being December 30, 1985.

PSC has been proceeding in a timely manner to complete the testing of 1.he CRD at higher temperatures. During most of 1985, test procedures were being written, a CRDM assembly was acquired from FSV after the refurbishment pregram was completed ar.d the test facility was being checked out and refurbished as required.

CRD #9 is ncw being checked for damage after being shipped from FSV and is being made ready for testing.

Unfortunately, a problem in the orifice valve assembly has been identified and the CRD is being disassembled to evaluate and correct the problem before testing can begin.

PSC will complete the high temperature (300 degrees Fahrenheit) test, and perform a preliminary evaluation of the test results by December 30, 1985.

Final review and evaluation of the test results will be completed by March 31, 1986.

PSC will advise NRC of the results of the preliminary and final evaluation when they are available.
