Zion Station Units 1 and 2 Byron Station Unit 1 Response to IE Bulletin 85-02 NRC Docket Nos. 50-295/304-& 50-454 Reference (a):
IE Bulletin 85 EL Jordan letter to all OLS and CPS dated November 15, 1985
Dear Mr. Keppler:
Reference (a) requested certain actions of licensees with Westinghouse DB-50 reactor trip breakers.
Commonwealth Edison has one station using the specified breakers for that function, Zion Station.
The STA modification on Unit 1 was completed at the last refueling outage, and the STA modification on the Unit 2 reactor trip breakers is being done during the current refueling outage.
No further action is planned.
Byron Station Unit 1 uses Westinghouse DS416 reactor trip breakers; therefore, the IE Bulletin is inapplicable.
- However, there is a similar modification for DS416 reactor trip breakers to which Commonwealth Edison has committed.
The Byron Unit 1 commitment is to install the STA prior to restart from the first refueling outage.
Byron Unit 1 is currently shut down for other modifications.
We are attempting to complete the DS416 STA modification during this outage but are not changing our commitment.
To the best of my knowledge and belief the statements contained above are true and correct.
