Dear Mr. Denton:
ULNRC-1230 DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT, UNIT 1 REVISION TO TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FIGURES 3.9-1, 5.6-1 i
AND SECTIONS 3/4 9.12, 5.3, 5.6 CONCERNING SPENT FUEL POOL STORAGE Ref:
ULNRC-1192 dated October 15, 1985 In a recent review of the referenced submittal, we have detected an error in the dose calculations contained on page 6 of 7 of Enclosure 1 for a dropped assembly in the fuel building.
The assembly iodine and noble gas inventories taken from Table 15.7-2 of WCAP-9500 and used in the calculation were found to be incorrect.
In discussions with Westinghouse, we have determined that the change from Westinghouse Standard Fuel to Westinghouse Optimized Fuel Assemblies does not change the source term used in a dropped assembly analysis; and therefore, the evaluation currently contained in Section 15.7.4 of the Callaway FSAR remains valid.
The results remain well below 10CFR100 criteria and additionally well below the guidelines given in the Standard j
Review Plan Section 15.7.4.
We have reviewed the Safety Evaluation and the Significant i
Hazarda Consideration contained in the referenced letter and found that the conclusions have not changed.
We-have also I
reviewed the November 6, 1985 Federal Register notice associated l
with this amendment request.
The discussion contained therein remains applicable and requires no revision as a result of this j.
letter.
In conclusion, the proposed Technical Specification l
changes do not adversely affect or endanger the health or the safety of the general public, and do not involve an unreviewed safety question or present a significant hazard.
Very truly yours,
$$k23gDO
