See Enclosure 1 PURPOSE:
To discuss GNSI's preliminary report on cracks observed in a CASTOR V/21 dry storage cask during an unlicensed demonstration by the Department of Energy with Virginia Power at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL).
DISCUSSION:
In response to the staff comments GNSI will provide additional structural analysis, material property data, basket drawings and identify any remedial action which may be taken to preclude such an event occurring under design basis conditions. Also changes to be made in the final version of the Topical Report to be submitted in response to our September 30, 1985, approval letter were discussed. Meetings were scheduled with Virginia Power with respect to its Surry site dry storage application for January _9,1986, and with GNSI for February 6, 1986.
