Supplementary information: The huclear. Regblatory Commission has scheduled a one week Diagnostic and Therapeutic Nuclear Medicin's course (H-304) to be held March 17 -

21,1997. Attendance at this course is available to the Agreement States on a space

' available basis. In addition, States wishing to guarantee a space in this course, may also i

fund the per student tuition cost of $1.,087.00; The Agreement State will be responsible for travel and per diem expenses for their respective attendees. Applications for the course should be submitted by February 17,1997. When submitting an application, the

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine Churse (~H-304)

Description:==

The course provides an understanding of basic radiation biology; the facilities and equipment,used in nuclear medicine departments; clinicalLdiagnostic and therapeutic procedures involving the administration of radiopharmaceuticals to patients; safe handling of patients and the protection of staff and visitors; area radiation surveys; responsibilities of key personnel; function of the Radiation Safety committee; ALARA program; and training requirements. Diagnostic and therapeutic misadministration, transport of radioactive materials and emergency procedures and recordkeeping requirements, quality assurance, calibrations and waste disposal are also covered.

Opportunities are provided for hands-on experience. Relevant portions of 10 CFR Part 35, Medical Use of Byproduct Material" and USNRC Regulatory Guide 10.8, " Guide for the Preparation of Applications for Medical Use Programs" are emphasized.

5 Days 40 Instructional Hours Conducted By:

Advanced Health Education Center (AHEC)

Examination:

Written comprehensive-final examination.

Prerequisites:

A knowledge of basic radiation protection is necessary. A hand-held calculator with exponential and logarithmic functions is recommended.

Applicability:

This course is required for Materials Radiation Specialist Inspectors and is supplemental training for other NRC personnel Dates /
