Notification of Noncompliance with Effluent Limitations NPDES Permit No. AL 0022080 - Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Description of the Discherme - Discharge No. 111 Sewage lift stations were inoperable and effluent spilled over into the yard drain system on. November 15 and November 22.
Another set of lift pumps malfunctioned on November 27, spilling raw sewage on the area around

the sump. No samples were taken.
Cause and Period of 'the Noncompliance Both lift stations were rendered inoperable due to toilet tissue plugging the incurrent port of the pump as well as compacting around the outside of it.
In each case the period of noncompliance did not exceed six (6) hours per occurrence.
Steps Taken to Reduce. Eliminate, and Prevent Recurrence of the NoncomplyinE Cischarat The sumps were pumped out and the pumps made mechanically operable.
Since the problem was identified with the November 22 event, daily observations are being made until the insoluble toilet tissue is excluded from the facilities serviced by the sumps. A recommendation was sent to our Purchasing Group to avoid further procurement of this product.
