I am enclosing a copy of =y petition to ;oin in Marvin I. Lewis's petition to' the ASLB, now to the NRC for new and expanded hearings on leak rates relating to both Units #1 ana #2 at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant.

I feel it is absolutely essential to consider all. facts that could relate to the safe cleanup of Unit #2, or the safe operation of Unit #1 I thus would like to add my support of Mr. Lewis's request, especially knowing that the full consideration of all evidence which cight bu presented regarding the leak rates, could very well enhance the survival chances for many persons in this area.

As stated in the enclosed petition, I have seen some of the evidence Mr. Lewis intends to present, and feel it :ould be invaluable in the consideration of the ability of TMI#1 to continue to operate safely.

For myself, anything less than perfect _ will not be enough to give this area, because I am now well aware of the mounting cases of cancer, and cancer. deaths throughout this valley. It is not

. a pleasant experience to know that thcse deaths may indeed escalate with potentially high, radioactive releases fro = Three Mile Island.

..ay well produce. Having taken notes on the 3econdary Auxillary Loss and P.O.Ds for TMI 2, I am fairly certain there will be re-leases, beyond those which might be safely borne by citizens who reside in-areas affected by the plant.

It is already a source of great sorrow to cyself that citizens here cannot get adequate cedical coverage, or sustanence in some cases, because an emergency health situation has not been recognized.

To then watch that appalling and inhumane situation co.ntinue to escalate, because-technical issues vital to health and safety have not been fully addresses would be a very dark chapter in national history. In more than a few areas now, there is a cancer, or more than one cancer, or a cancer death in every home along a raad or a block of-a city or town.

I cannot comprehend the inhumanity that can allow this situation to continue without full remedy!

e (2) e The health situation here has not received the state's, nor the N.R.C. 's acknowledgement of its existence; howev'er, clearly ther is a grave problem in many areas throughout this valley.

I am hopeful that new facts and future interpretations of those facts will. prove exposures here were definitely too great;however, by the time such a " reinterpretation" i hr, take place, many G

people here will be dead.

The re fore, I am pleading for people in this are4 that they at least be given full protection technically, in matters which affect their health and safety.

Sincerely, hln?:l-$.np.1&
