OPERATIONS St# MARY NOVEMBER, 1985 At the beginning of Noveder the Unit was operating at 48% power per the Power

Escalation Test Program.

On Nove der 19,-1985, a plant incident occurred when an I4C technician working on an imbalance meter in the min control room console inadvertently bumped the Unit Load Denend -(ULD) up to 53% power.

The Control Room Operators (CR0s),' alerted by a turbine header pressure alarm, stopped the power increase and stabilized the plant at 53% power within one minute.

In the subsequent 3-5 minutes, the plant was returned to 48% power

' and stabilized.-

l On Noveder 20,' 1985, the annual emergency exercise was completed and on Noveder 23, 1985, the Unit proceeded to 75% power following NRC and Unit Management approval. After completing ICS tuning, the plant conducted simulated assymetric control rod and FW punp runbacks from 75% power.

~

Subsequent to acceptable plant response from runback testing, the Unit was returned to 75% power.

MAJOR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE During the nonth of Novenber, the following major naintenance work items were completed:-

Main Steam' Safety Relief valves MS-V-17B; 17C; 20A; 20B; 21 A and 21B,

.setpoints were checked with the plant operating at 48% power because of-leakage past the seats. The "as found" data of the relief valves revealed that two setpoints were out of tolerance (one low and one high). Engineering review of these setpoints determined that the valves were operable. All of the valve setpoints were adjusted within the setpoint tolerance requirements.

- Both emergency Diesel Generators EG-Y-1 A/1B were inspected per the annual technical specification requirements.

One Diesel Generator was taken out of service at a time to perform this inspection work.

Inspections were performed by Mechanical, Electrical Instrument and Relay department personnel.

Work on the Diesel Generators included:

IRD readings, timer settings, circuit breaker checks, oil changes, checked brushes / collector rings, generator bearings, DC motor inspection, gear box heaters replaced, instrument calibration, relief.

valve inspections, check valve inspections, tank inspe::tions, injection nozzles inspected, fuel lines, exhaust nanifold, air manifold, turbo charger inspected, piston rings / cylinders inspected, crankshaf t/ bearings inspected, timing chain and engine timing, governor, air start' system, air blowers, relays, and filters were checked.

The Diesel Generators were returned to service within the technical specification time requirements.

Before

declaring the Diesel Generators operable, a twenty-four hour run test was performed with satisfactory results.

During the "A" Diesel Generator inspection a sell leak was observed coming from the nunber 12 cylinder liner lower jacket water seal.

Engineering reviewed the consequence of this leak and determined the Diesel will remain inoperable. Correction 'of this work l

item will be performed at a later date.
