SUBJECT:
NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-395/97 01
Dear Mr. Taylor:
On March 22, 1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your V. C. Summer
reactor facility.
The enclosed report presents the results of that
inspection.
During the 6 weeks covered by this inspection period, your conduct of
activities at the V. C. Summer facility was generally characterized by safety
conscious operations, work practices and conservative decision making.
This inspection determined that you had met the intent of Generic Letter
89 10, Safety Related Motor 0perated Valve Testing and Surveillance. However,
we noted minor weaknesses in your determinations of certain parameters that
were used in calculations to verify the design basis capabilities of motor-
operated valves. You have initiated actions to resolve the more significant
weaknesses and these actions are tracked in your regulatory tracking system as
items LIC MSP970008 and LIC MSP970009.
Based on the NRC review of the Summer Generic Letter 8910 program and its
implementation, and the actions which you initiated to address weaknesses, the
NRC staff is closing its review of the Generic Letter 8910 program at
V. C. Summer.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice." a copy of
this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
