This is to report a safeguards event at the Westinghouse Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility in Columbia, South Carolina.
The event involves temporary loss of current knowledge of location for two unirradiated, low enriched uranium power reactor fuel rods. A detailed investigation concerning re-establishment of current knowledge of location of the rods has been conducted and documented. The attachment to this letter summarizes the results of this investigation.
In accordance with Section 2.790(d), Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, the attachment shouid 'oe withheld from public disclosure.
A follow-on investigation into root causes and appropriate corrective actions is now in progress, and will also be reported in accordance with the regulations.
