NRC Letter dated April 1,1997, GL 97-01, " Degradation of Control Rod Drive Mechanism Nozzle and Other Vessel Closure Head Penetrations" GL 97-01 requested licensees to provide a report containing the details of a plan for inspecting the control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) nozzles and other vessel head penetrations (VHPs) for j
indications of degradation related to the use of Alloy 600 raaterial, including: a schedule for the inspections, the technical basis for the schedule, analysis to support the planned actions and a description of the TM1-1 history of any plant chemistry excursions (sulfate, chloride, fluoride, oxygen, boron, or lithium) that exceeded the plant administrative limits or conductivity excursions that may be indicative of resin intrusions along with an assessment of the potential for any of such intrusions to result in a significant increase in the probability for intergranular attack (IG A) of VHPs.
GPU Nuclear Inc. (GPUN) intends to submit a 120 day report by July 29,1997 as requested by the GL. GPUN will advise tue NRC as soon as possible if any delays are experienced that could affect our ability to meet this schedule for providing the requested information.
