NRC Generic Letter 97-01, " Degradation of Control Rod Drive Mechanism Nozzle and Other Vessel Closure Head Penetrations" dated April 1,1997 l

l In the referenced letter, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff reguested the licensee to provide information concerning the inspection of PWR control rod drive l

mechanism and other vessel closure head penetrations and information concerning resin l

bead intrusions. Licensees are requested to provide a 30 day response indicating whether l

or not the requested information will be submitted and whether or not it will be submitted l

within the requested 120 day time period. The following provides the 30 day response for

the Commonwealth Edison Company (Comed):

Comed will provide the Staff with an appropriate response and the requested i

information to the extent practicable, or an appropriate schedule for providing the requested information, within 120 days of the date of the Generic Letter. Comed is actively participating with NEI and the Westinghouse Owners Group to address this issue.
