SUBJECT: Combined Inspection Report Nos. 50-334/92-28 and 50-412/92-27
This letter transmits the report of the inspection conducted by Mr. R. Paolino of this office
on December 15-18,1992 at the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2 in
Shippingport, Pennsylvania. Mr. Paolino discussed the findings of the inspection with senior
staff members of Duquesne Light Company, on December 18, 1992.
The purpose of the inspection was to assess the adequacy of the engineering and technical
support provided for the operation of .ne Beaver Valley Power Station. Within these areas,
the inspection focused on issues important to public health and safety, and consisted of
selective examinations of relevant procedures, representative records, plant design changes,
modifications, and observations by the inspector. Areas inspected are discussed in the
enclosed report.
The inspector concluded that overall engineering and technical support to the plant was of
good quality and was adequate to support plant operations. Supervisory staff additions in the
electrical and instrument / control group areas of corporate engineering staff appeared to have
enhanced the design control process and support to plant operations.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified.
