Annual Agreement States' Meeting l

- The Annual Agreement States' Meeting will be held October 16-18, 1997, in Los Angeles, California. This will be the first Agreement States' Meeting developed cooperatively by the

[

Agreement States and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The NRC will not be i

funding Staic panicipation. States are expected to fund their own panicipation.

j r

The State of California has made arrangements with the L.A. Airpon Westin for a room rate of

$79.00 per night. The hotel provides free airpon hotel transportation. The meeting will be on a Thursday to Saturday schedule so that State panicipants can qualify for a Saturday night stay over and reduced airfares. Panicipants will have Sunday free for travel or sightseeing as they choose.

l t

The Program Comminee for the Meeting consists of Lloyd Bolling and Chip Cameron from the NRC and Don Bunn and myself from the Agreement States. Anyone who would like to panicipate in the agenda planning is welcome to join in Please contact Don or me ASAP.

i This meeting will only be as good as the Agreement States make it. I have asked the NRC to stress j

dialogue with the States in topics they propose to lead. I am looking for State leads on the topics that States feel are imponant.. Potential sources of agenda topics are--lessons learned, new evolving problems, old problems still unresolved, etc. What would you like to hear from the NRC? What

' would you like to hear from other States? What would you like to share? Remember, dialogue is an important key to making this meeting effective. Please get proposed topics to Don or me by May 15th.

As the agenda develops I will share more details with you. This is nur meeting, let's make it a good one! -
