Dear Mr. Stolz:

Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 1 (TMI-1)

Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Generic Letter 85-10 Generic Letter 85-10, issued May 23, 1985, requires the technical specifications of B&W plants to be revised to address items 4.3 and 4.4 of Generic Letter 83-28. The technical specifications are.to include limiting conditions for operation and testing requirements for the shunt and undervoltage trip attachments and the silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs).

On October 31, 1984, the NRC issued Amendment 102 to the TMI-1 Operating License. This added the requirement to independently test the shunt trip and undervoltage trip features as part of the surveillance requirement for the control rod drive trip breaker.

GPUN submitted TSCR No. 143, Rev. 1 on September 30, 1985 to address the remaining items in GL 85-10.

Limiting conditions for operation for the trip features and the SCRs and the testing requirement for the SCRs have been proposed in accordance with the guidance provided in GL 85-10.

With the submittal of TSCR P:o. 143, Rev. 1, we consider our response to Generic Letter 85-10 complete.

Sincerely,

(
