Public Law 97-415, enacted on' January 4, 1983, amended Section 189 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954.to-authorize the Nuclear Regulatory _Comission

to issue. and _make imediately effective any amendment to an operating

-license upon a determination by the Comission that such amendment involves ino significant hazards consideration, notwithstanding the pendency before the'Comissionl of a request for a hearing.

In. addition, the legislation requires the Comission to periodically (but

.not less frequently than once every thirty days) publish notice of any amendments. issued, or-proposed to be issued, under the new authority above.

A copy of.the Comission's Federal Register notice is enclosed for. your information.:
