VICE PRESIDENT NUCLEAR OPERATIONS SNRC-1220 DEC 0 91985 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

20555 Additional Information Concerning License Change Application #2 Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-322 Operating License NPF - 36

Dear Mr. Denton:

LILCO letter SNRC-1211, dated November 16, 1985, transmitted License Change Application #2 which requested two technical specification changes. to this letter provides an update of the fire detectors change request.

This updated list of fire detectors provides an accurate representation of the as-installed location of fire detectors and became necessary due to relatively recent engineered changes required during instal-lation.

LILCO will, of course, inform the Commission of any further engineering changes to the quantity or location of these fire detectors as soon as these become available.

The requested change to the statement of limiting condition for operation (Section 3.3.7.9) is not affected by this updated list.

Revision bars in the right-hand margin show the differences be-tween this updated list of detectors and that sent in SNRC-1211.

Changes in the total number of instruments occurred for diesel generator rooms 101, 102 and 103; secondary containment El.

40'-0"; both MCC rooms EL. 112'-9"; and secondary containment El.

150'-3" and 159'-9".

Also, one instrument (smoke detector) was added to the CRAC exhaust El.

63'-0".

The update'd list in Attachment 1 continues to represent a signif-icant increase in the number of instruments dedicated to fire detection.

Therefore, the conclusion of the significant hazards analysis contained in Section 4.2 of SNRC-1211 is unaffected by this update and still applies to this license change request.
