Dear Mr. gow,

b.

u q

We have completed our review of the recently issued SNM-986 fenewa1 and request the following editorial changes in the license wording:

Item 1.

The licensee should be lis ted as MIT, 77 Mass.

Ave.,

Cambridge, Mass., 02139, ra ther than the more restrictive Nuclear Reactor Labora tory.

Item 6B.

Wording should be changed to include 93 w t% enrichment to cover materials on hand of that enrichnent.

Item 13.

The requested change in item I will render the reference to "the licensee" in this condition (and in conditions 14 and 15) as an

~

accura te reflection of our multiple programs, otherwise a change would have to be made since the Nuclear Reactor Labora tory is not involved in all uses.

At the end of this condition, please add the words "or the Reactor Safeguards Committee" since, as described in our application, either committee may approve such work, depending on loca tion of use.

Item 14.

As in item 13, the las t sentence needs to be modif $gd to s ta te the

" Radiation Protection Committee or the Reacto@ Safeg9hrds Committee, as applicable".

(No te the change from " Safety" to "P ro tec tion" in the first committee listing as no " Radiation Sif'ety ittee" exists a t MIT. )

p1 N

Item 15.

Reference is made to "liealth Physics Technicians".d Sin 2e no such l

title exis ts a t MIT, it would be more accurate a$d definitive to refer to the individuals as "Radia tion Pdtection Office technicians".

This would more clearly identify the group for which A

training is required.
