Withdrawal of the Request for Authorization to Utilize ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Case N-521 i
We had previously requested authorization to utilize ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Case N-521, " Alternative Rules for Deferral of Inspections of Nozzle-to-Vessel Welds, inside Radius Sections, and Nozzle-to-Safe End Welds of a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) Vessel,Section XI, Division 1", during the Prairie Island Third Ten Year Inservice Inspection interval for both Units 1 and 2. By this letter we withdraw our request for authorization, in its entirety, since we cannot meet certain conditions established by NRC policy.
Because we are withdrawing the request, we are required to perform examinations of the nozzles during the current (first) period of the third intervc! for both units. Since the current periods (as currently scheduled) would expire prior to the next scheduled refueling outages, we are extending each unit's first pericd to its next refueling outage.
Each of these extensions will be less than one year, in this letter we have made no new Nuclear Regulatory Commission commitments.
