IE BULLETIN 85-01:
STEAM BINDING OF AUXILIARY FEEDWATER PUMPS
Dear Dr. Murley:
The actions required by the subject bulletin have been completed at the Indian Point 3 Facility.
As recommended by the bulletin, AFW pump fluid conditions will be monitored by a simple hands-on check to verify ambient temperatures present. Pump discharge piping will be checked by a plant operator once per eight hour shift. Plant logs have been revised to indicate this as a required monitoring point. Also, as requested the operating instructions for the AFW system have been revised to include guidance for recognizing and restoring the AFW system to operable status, should steam binding occur. The revised instructions were implemented on January 28, 1986. A copy of IE Bulletin.85-01, the revised watchstander logs and the affected portion of the revised operation procedure were provided to all operations personnel by memorandum from the Operations Superintendent.
Approximately 45 manhours were expended in investigating, developing and reviewing the documentation associated with IE Bulletin 85-01.
