SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MARCH 26, 1997, MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF VERMONT YANKEE h0 CLEAR POWER COMPANY On March 26, 1997,-pursuant to notice, the NRC staff met with representatives-of. Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation (the licensee) at NRC Headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. A list of attendees is provided in Enclosure 1.
Materials provided by the' licensee at the meeting are provided in Enclosures 2 and 3.
The licensee discussed the subjects in Enclosure 2.
Salient points included:
1.
An organization chart was provided for information. The relationship between the licensee's organization and Yankee Atomic Electric Co.
(YAEC) was discussed, including the use of YAEC for the QA function, and the use of Vermont Yankee employees for systems engineering.
2.
The licensee expects to submit Improved Technical Specifications sometime between September and the end of 1997.
3.
Corrective action processes were discussed.
Some needed corrections identified in the design basis verification effort are already being i
addressed.
4.
The licensee stated that they are encouraging employees to identify problems early, and in some cases using cash awards to provide encouragement.
5.
The licensee stated that uncertainties resulting from recent Vermont State legislature deregulation activities are expected to be resolved in the near future, possibly within the next month.
