.l GPU Nuclear Corporation Docket No. 50-289 Three Mile Island, Unit No. 1 License No. DPR-50 During an NRC inspection conducted between December 13, 1985 and January 10, 1986, a violation of NRC requirements was identified. In accordance with the j " General Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions,"10 CFR

Part 2, Appendix C (1985), the violation is set forth below.

l Technical Specification 4.18.7.2.c requires that fire doors shall be verified to be functional by a visual inspection at least daily for doors neither locked nor supervised to verify that they are in a closed post-tion.

Contrary to the above, during December 16-19, 1985, fire door 0-108 (not locked or supervised) was not visually verified to be functional in a closed position and was found to be ajar.

i This is a Severity Level IV Violation (Supplement I).

Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, GPU Nuclear Corporation is hereby required to submit to this office within 30 days of the date of the letter

, transmitting this Notice, a written statement or explanation in reply, includ-ing: (1) the corrective steps which have been ta6en and the results achieved; '

! (2) the corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations; and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved. Where good cause is shown, 4

consideration will be given to extending this response time.
