Dear Mr. Makris:

In follow L.p to a telecon between our staffs, I am enclosing a geospatial file of latitudes and longitudes for NRC licensed facilities. This file is in dBASE format and can be easily converted to ASCll or LandView lil format.

The records contain locations for the following type of facilities: nuclear power plants; fuel cycle and materiallicensees with emergency plans; site decomrnissioning management plan sites and uranium mill sites with planned environmental justice reviews; and a high level waste facility selected for site characterization.

Nuclear power plant locations are accurate to six decimal places; all other sites are accurate to three decimal places. Where there are multiple plants at a single location, the location of the main plant that is operational is used. There are a total of 106 records; 77 of them are locations for power plants.

Nuclear Site Locations With the cooperation and review of several offices at NRC, the IRM/ Technology Assessment staff has assembled a geospatial file oflatitudes and longitudes for significant nuclear facility sites in the United States. The site file is available in ASCII format.

  • methodology used to create site files The site file was developed for LandView III, a public-domain GIS package that is being used in government reports on environmentaljustice. The file will be incorporated as a data layer in an upcoming release of Landview II. We are making it available to you, and eventually to the public, for your GIS applications.

Nuclear power plant locations are accurate to six decimal places, all other sites are accurate to three decimal places.
