Dear Mr. MacDonald:
The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University wishes to register as a
user of the General Electric Company Model 700 shipping container (certificate of compliance No.
5942) pursuant to the general license provisions of 10CFR71.12(c)(1).
Virginia Polytechnic Institute has all the documentation required by that document.
The University posseses a license (R-62) for the reactor facility, issued on April 16, 1985 (Docket No. 50-124).
This license was based on submissions of an SAR and other documents to the
- NRC, which included a description of the University's Quality Assurance plan.
Appended to this submission to you is a description of the extension of the existing quality assurance plan to cover the one-time shipment of irradiated fuel from the University to an approved facility.
Also please note that this submittal differs from the previous one submitted to you on October 25, 1983 in that, during the interval since that time, the DOE has made available to us the GE-700 cask, which we will use instead of the GE-200 model.
