Callaway Facility Operating License, NPF-30 The purpose of this letter is to inform NRC of Union Electric's plan to install a permanent area radiation monitor on the manipulator crane to satisfy Attachment 1, Item B of the Callaway Plant Operation License (Reference 1).
Prior to entry into Mode 6 during our forthcoming refueling outage, a permanent area radiation monitor will be installed on the manipulator crane, initially utilizing the existing temporary power and instrument cables which now serve a temporary monitor.
The permanent monitor will be installed in accordance with an. approved design and will be calibrated and operable prior to the beginning of reactor vessel stud detensioning.
Permanent power and instrument cables will be installed prior to movement of fuel.
It is Union Electric's position that these actions will satisfy the legal and technical intent of the license condition and avoid an unnecessary delay of up to three days in commencing refueling activities.
This plan has been discussed with NRC Region III-and NRR personnel.
