OF fiEETING CONCERNING l'0 DEL NO. CNS 8-1208 CASK Attendees Chen-Nuclear Systems, Inc NRC Kevin Kingsley Dick Odegaarden Robert Anderson llenry Lee Bill Allan Introduction A neeting was held at Silver Spring, flaryland, on Septenber 10 1985, to discuss replacing primary lid bolts with ratchet binders.
Discussion Chen-fluclear Systems, Inc. proposes to replace 20, 2-inch diameter primary lid bolts with 12,1-3/4-inch diaceter ratchet binders. The applicant perfomed a series of calculations which naxinize the "g" values and the anount of defomation for top, side, and obifque corner 30-foot drop tests.
l The calculations and assunptions as sumarized appeared to be correctly done.
The torquing of the ratchet binders and other possible damage nodes to the binders may not have been fully addressed. The use of ratchet i
binders to secure a pressure vessel cover-is not addressed in any pressure vessel code and raises questions concerning the use of ratchet binders in this case.
The applicant stated an application concerning the subject amendment has been submitted. The application will be reviewed in a timely nanner.
