DIVISION OF WASTE MANAGEMENT CONTACT FOR REVIEW 0F GUIDANCE FOR RULE ON RADIOLOGICAL CRITERIA FOR DECOMMISSIONING After the final rule on radioloC cal i criteria for decommissioning was provided to the Lommission on February 21,.1997, (SECY-97-046), Division of Waste Management (DWM) staff received a number of requests from Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) staff to provide input on the guidance documents for the rule. The draft documents include the regulatory guide for rule implementation, NUREG/CR-5512, NUREG-1549, as well as MARSSIM. It is our understanding that the Commission directed the staff to finalize the guidance documents within one year of the date the final rule was provided to the Commission.
We are designating David Fauver as the DWM point of contact to coordinate this effort. Mr. Fauver will work with a team of DWM staff to provide comments to RES and to ensure that critical implementation issues are brought to the attention of DWM management for resolution in a timely manner. Robert Nelson will continue to be the point of contact for the rule itself.
