Vogtle Electric Generating Plant - Units 1 & 2; 50-424, 50-425; Limitorque Valve Motor Operators Attention: Mr. J. Nelson Grace On October 11, 1985, Mr. R. E. Folker, Vogtle Project Quality Assurance Engineer, informed Mr. M. Sinkule of the USNRC-Region II of a potentially reportable condition involving Limitorque Valve Motor Operators.
Evidence suggests that energized space heaters within certain types of valve operators has caused burn damage to internal wiring.
Bechtel Power Corporation has identified valves in safety-related applications that use Limitorque motor operators.
A sampling plan is being developed to determine if this condition is generic to all Limitorque operators.
Georgia Power Company will inform the NRC of the results of this evaluation by March 21, 1986.
