Senator Robert A. Peck April 7, 1997 Wyoming State Legislature Senate District 26 Fremont County P.O. Box 993 Riverton, Wyoming 82501
Dear Senator Peck:
Thank you for the opportunity to speak at the Uranium and Nuclear Conference held March 19-21,1997, in Riverton Wyoming. I found the dialog between the U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Uranium Recovery industry invaluable in our continuing effort to streamline the regulatory process and address industry's concerns.
Over the past three years, the NRC Uranium Recovery staff and representatives of the uranium recovery industry, affected States, and the U.S. Department of Energy have met on a regular basis to provide a forum for all participants to discuss relevant issues within the uranium recovery industry. The most recent meeting was held on November 13 - 14, 1996, at the NRC's Headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. I would like to extend a personal invitation for you to join us at the upcoming joint NRC - National Mining Association (NMA) uranium recovery workshop to be held on June 3-5,1997, in Denver, Colorado. is a registration form for the workshop, which upon completion should be returned to the address on the fonn. In addition, a block of rooms has been reserved at the Cherry Creek Inn, Denver, Colorado, which will be the site of the workshop.
Information concerning room reservations is included.
A draft agenda for the June workshop is also enclosed (Enclosure 2). The agenda items were derived in part from items identified at the last meeting, the Uranium and Nuclear Conference held in Riverton, Wyoming in March of 1997, and discussions between NRC and NMA. The agenda is designed to cover a broad range of issues that affect the uranium recovery industry, and the states where the industry is active.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming workshop, please contact me at (301) 415-7238.
