This letter acknowledges receipt of a Petition pursuant,to 10 CFR'2.206 submitted by you, dated March 11, 1997, on behalf of:the . Citizens Awareness Network and the Nuclear Information and. Resource Service. , The' Petition was' addressed to Emile Julian with a request for.. service of the, Petition on Leonard J. Callan, Executive Director for Operations of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), John C. Hoyle, Secretary of the Commission and the Commission. The Petition requests a modification of the license of the  !

Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company's Haddam Neck Plan't that would prohibit any decommissioning activity for at least six months without any contamination events occurring, enforcement action.against this licensee by means of a large civil penalty and that the facility be'placed on the NRC watch list. The petition has been forwarded to my: office for; response.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.206, the NRC will take action with regard to the issues raised in your petition within a reasonable time. I have enclosed for 1
