IMPOSITION OF CIVIL PFNALTY - $50,000 By EN 85-70 dated October 16, 1985, the Commission was notified of the intent of IE to issue a Notice of Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty in the amount of Fifty Thousand Dollars to Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation.
This action was based on a radiological incident in which a Chemistry-Health Physics technician received an unplanned radiation exposure of approximately 1.3 rem to the whole body while performing a survey where the radiation levels were 1000 R/hr.
The licensee responded to the Notice in two letters dated November 25 and 26, 1985. After careful consideration of the licensee's responses, the staff has concluded that the violation did occur as set forth in the Notice of Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty. Accordingly, an Order Imposing Civil Penalty in the amount of Fifty Thousand Dollars has been issued today. Under the terms of the Order, the licensee may within 30 days of the date of the Order, pay the civil penalty or request a hearing.
