This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. K. R. Naidu of this office on October 1-3, 1985, of your facility at Peru, Indiana and to the discussions of our findings with you and members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
The purpose of this inspection was to review the documentation associated with the Motor Control Centers supplied to Shoreham, San Onofre Units 2 & 3, and V. C. Summer, and obtain additional information on a 10 CFR Part 21 report issued by the Long Island Lichting Company relative to the operating coils for size 1 starters. During this inspection, the corrective actions taken by you on nonconformances identified during an inspection conducted from November 30 to December 4, 1981, were reviewed. Areas examined during the inspection and our findings are discussed in the enclosed report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of an examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
The results of the inspection indicate that adequate tests were performed on all the replacement starter coils installed in the 480 volt Motor Control Centers supplied to the Shoreham nuclear power plant to assure that the operating coils pickup at 771% of rated voltage.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
