Dear Mr. Denton:
On September 4,1985 your staff requested information concerning Board Notification 82-21, Control Rod Drive Support Pin Failure.
For Plant Vogtle the original pins have been removed and replaced with improved pins. The improved pins incorporate a higher heat treatment and a parabolic radius at the shank to shoulder intersect.
In addition, the new pins were installed with a reduced torque (120-130 ft-lbs) on the pin nut.
