Subject:

LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 Response to Exo Sensors QA Inspection NRC Docket Nos. 50-373 and 50-374 Reference (a): November 26, 1985 letter from C. E. Norelius to Cordell Reed transmitting Vendor Report 99901015/85-01 dated 8/26/85.

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter is in response to an inspection of the implementation of Exo Sensors, Inc.

Quality Assurance (QA) program conducted by the Vendor Program Branch of the Office of Inspection and Enforcement. Reference (a) indicated that significant deficiencies exist in the implementation of the Exo Sensors QA program and that Exo Sensors products were supplied to and may be in use at LaSalle.

We have made a Company check with Purchasing of past procurements from Exo Sensors and found that the procurements only involve the LaSalle Station. Furthermore, examination of the purchase orders indicates that such purchases of items involve the Off-Cas Hydrogen Analyzer panels, two for each unit, at LaSalle. All such purchases were identified as non-safety related. An evaluation of this classification was performed. Investigation of the Instrument Index shows that the items were purchased as non-Class IE, no special qualifications required, and that there are no applicable Quality Assurance Requirements.

As a' result, no audits have been performed of the Exo Sensor facility by Commonwealth Edison Company, because, to the best of my knowledge and belief, no safety-related procurements were made from this vendor.
