This forwards our report of a routine safety inspection at Rensselaer Poly-
technic Institute Critical Facility, Schenectady, New York. The inspection
consisted of observation of activities, examination of procedures and records,

and interviews of personnel.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. However,
there appears to be the need for the development of guidance for licensed
operator maintenance of qualification. The active use of an operator's license

must be demonstrated both as a condition of the license and as a requirement
for renewal.
