Dear Ms. Adensam:

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION - ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF SAFETY-RELATED MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-354 Pursuant to the requests in letter, W.

Butler to R.L. Mittl, dated October 2, 1985, Public Service Electric and Gas Company provides the following responses:

Item (1):

The information necessary to identify the non-metallic materials used for E System Snubbers, Nuclear Relief Valves and RCIC Turbine assemblies was included in MEQ submittal letter, R.L. Mittl to W.

Butler, dated July 29, 1985, as Attachment 5.

Item (2):

This information has been provided.

Item (3):

The Mechanical Equipment Qualification Program included a research and review of vendor and industry sources to obtain the necessary documentation to establish and justify the qualified life for the non-metallic subcomponents.

If documentation was not available for the non-metallic materials, an analysis to establish the qualified life and replacement interval for the non-metallic parts was done.

Following this approach, we consider the replacement intervals established are conservative.
