Gentlemen:
This is.in reference to your letter dated December 28, 1984 to rene;i your
byproduct material license.
A review of the previously submitted applications indicates that certain
aspects of your program may not be in accordance with current NRC policies
regarding the use of personnel dosimetry and the performance of gauge
servicing operations. Also, your NRC license does not authorize all of the
activities which were requested in the applications dated July 14, 1979 and
November 29, 1979. Refer to License Condition 15.
.Due to the differences in requested and authorized activities, the changes in
NRC licensing policies, and the personnel changes at VECO, Inc., you should
submit a complete license application for the renewal of your license. The
application should not reference previously submitted documents, but you may
excerpt pages of previously submitted documents if they are still applicable
to your program. Refer to the enclosed licensing guide as you complete the
application.
Special areas of concern .that should be clearly describcd in the re-submittal
are as follows:
1. ' Servicing Operations
7' If you are or plan to perform operations on devices involving
installation, relocation, maintenance, repair, removal or disposal,
performance of radiation surveys following installation, etcf, the
information described in Item VII.1. , " Servicing Operations" of the
enclosed guide (page 12) should be provided.
2. Personnel Monitoring

operations are conducted.
