January 8, 1986 my Mr. James G. Keppler Regional Administrator Region III U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137
Dear Mr. Keppler:
This special report is being submitted in accordance with Technical Specif1-cations 3.7.7.a and 6.6.c, and the C. W. Schroeder to J. G. Keppler letter dated February 9, 1984, regarding the LaSalle Unit 2 drywell temperature.
On December 24, 1985, during a Unit 2 startup with the unit operating at 37 percent power, sensor 2TE-VP215 in the vicinity of Safety Relief Valves (SRV's) K, S, F and M was reading 151 F.
Data collected on the 26th, 27th and 30th of December,1985, indicated that the temperature around sensor 2TE-VP215 had dropped to below 150 F.
It is expected that no further temperature rise will occur as seen at the various sensor locations, since the readings obtained on December 30, 1985, were with the unit at essentially full power. Since the observed temperature is' well below the temperature of 170 F for which the remaining qualified life is calculated, no negative impact on equipment operability will occur as a result of this high temperature.
A special report dated November 18, 1985, (DVR 1-2-85-088), documented a similar occurrence during the period of July 26, 1985, to October 21, 1985 The corrective actions enumerated on that report have made considerable improve-ments in dryvell temperature. The great majority of temperatures monitored have decreased markedly as shown by the following table.
