NRC STAFF MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO RESPOND TO APPEAL BOARD QUESTIONS ON HYDR 0 GEN CONTROL By Memorandum and Order issued on January 3, 1986, the Atomic Safety and Licensing Appeal Board (Appeal Board) in the captioned proceeding directed the parties to the pending appeal of the Licensing Board's con-cluding partial initial decision to respond to two Appeal Board questions concerning the hydrogen control issue which is the subject of the pending appeal. Responses are to be filed by January 21, 1986.
Formulation of the NRC Staff's response has required extensive discussion and coordination with a number of technical staff members and will require further evaluation and discussion with Staff management.
Because of a need to further coordinate development of the Staff's response with a number of technical staff personnel so as to assure a clear and accurate statement of the NRC Staff's positions, the Staff needs additional time, on the order of one week, to complete its response to th3 Appeal Board's questions. Accordingly, the Staff seeks an extension of the time within which to respond to the Appeal Board's questions on hydrogen control to January 29, 1986.

' Staff counsel has contacted representatives for each of the parties concerning this Staff request for an extension of time. Counsel for Applicants and for Sunflower Alliance have indicated that they have no objection to the requested extension. OCRE's representative indicated that she would not object to the requested extension provided that the time within which OCRE may respond to the Appeal Board's questions is similarly extended to January 29, 1986. Accordingly, the Staff would bioaden its request for an extension of time"to include all parties.
REQUEST FOR RELIEF Based on the foregoing and for good cause shown, the NRC Staff respectfully requests that the time within which the parties may respond to the Appeal Board's questions on hydrogen control be extended to January 29, 1986.
