Radiological Alarm in Platteville, Colorado

Dear Mr. Cook:

PSC has recently evaluated the effectiveness of the early warning alert system at the Fort St. Vrain Nuclear Generating Station which utilizes tone alert radios to alert the population within the 5-mile emergency planning zone (EPZ) in the event of a radiological emergency.

Based on this evaluation, PSC has concluded that the existing early warning alert system can be significantly enhanced by the installation of an audible alarm in the community of Platteville, Colorado.

PSC, therefore, commits to installing an audible alarm in the community of Platteville, Colorado to alert the local population of a radiological event by February 14, 1986, which is prior to F0SAVEX-86.

This alarm, in conjunction with the existing early warning alert system, will enhance our ability to notify the public in the event of a radiological emergency at Fort St. Vrain.
