Vendor Interface Program for Safety Related Components - Generic Letter 83-28, Item 2.2.2 Gentlemen:

In Reference (b), Maine Yankee indicated that we would develop a program based on the ItPO NUTAC p ject for safety related components and in Reference (c) we set an i Iementation date of September 1,1985.

More recently, in Reference (d) we requested that the Staff reconsider its evaluation of the tAJTAC's suitability.

Since the NUTAC report is still under evaluation, we do not believe that it is appropriate to finalize the development of our implementing program at this time. However, we wish to assure the Staff that Maine Yankee has a program in place to receive and evaluate information on industry operating experience.

Our Operational Assessment System is used to screen and evaluate incoming information from many sources including:

MN-85-151 We will continue with this interim program until the NUTAC report or successor is approved by the Staff.

Within six months of approval of NUTAC, Maine Yankee will implement a Vendor Interface Program for safety related components based upon the report.
