Earl Easton, Section Leader Transportation & Storage Safety Section Spent Fuel Project Office FROM:
James F. Schneider Irradiated Fuel Section Spent Fuel Project Office 1
SUBJECT:
MEETING WITH FRPCC TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENTS SUBCOMMITTEE ATTENDEES:
W. Carriker, DOT; R. Katz, FEMA; C. Blue, EPA, J. Schneider, NRC; J. McClure, Sandia; R. Graham, DOA; E. Langston, DOE DISCUSSION:
On February 19, 1997 a meeting was held at the Department of Agriculture South Building at 12th & Independence Ave. SW in Washington DC. A letter was sent to the National Congress of Anerican Indians inviting them to participate in these meetings and comment on revision of the REP-5. Richard Katz said that they may comment on the REP-5 but are not expected to come to any meetings.
We reviewed and discussed the REP-5 comments that several participants submitted. We agreed to include more of an explanation of the 1988 accident listed in appendix A.
This is the only accident in which a type B package released its contents. Members felt it was important to explain all of the factors involved in this accident so anyone who reads it will have a full understanding of what happened.
