Gamma Indicator Device DESCRIPTION:
The Tell-Tale Pot (TT155) is fitted into a holder for a low activity tracker source fitted into the crawler body.
The Tell-Tale Pot is then used simply for the purpose of locating the 4
crawler's position within the pipe, with the aid of a radiation j
survey neter,. in case of " crawler" breakdown.
The construction i
of the device is as follows: First there is the center casing or 1
the " pill holder" which is made of stainless steel with maximum j
dimensions of 1.695 in. (4.31 cm) long and 1.625 in.
i (4.13 cm) in diameter.
Second, there is the source itself, l
encased within a depleted uranium pellet.
This is fitted
]
directly into the pill holder and tightly sealed with a stainless steel cap forming a stainless steel pellet, thus making the TT155 i
j device.
l This device is currently in storage pending disposal.

The TT155 device is etched with labeling that meets the requirements of Sections 20.1901 and 20.1904 of the 10 CFR.

CONDITIONS OF NORMAL USE:
The Tell-Tale TT155 was only subjected to ambient environmental pressure and temperature.
Only minimal vibrations are associated with the use of the crawler unit.
PROTOTYPE TESTING:
The source was tested and achieved an ANSI N452 Classification of 77C64544.
The device initially was not tested, but had been used in England for at least 2 years without any reported incidents.

Gamma Indicator Device EXTERNAL RADIATION LEVELS:
The dose rate in the beam path for a 10 aci source is 36 ren/hr (360 mSv/hr) at 2 in. (30 cm).
The dose rate on the side surface of the TT155 is 10 mrem /hr (0.10 mSv/hr).
Dose rates at varying distances from the path calculated from the manufacturer's reported data are:

OUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL:
Custom Devices do not require quality control programs because they are built to the unique specification of the user.

T,TMTTATIONS AND/OR OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:
- The device is authorized for possession only by the custom user pending disposal.
- The device shall be leak tested at 6 months intervals using techniques capable of detecting 0.005 microcuries of removable contamination.

- Handling, storage, use, transfer, and disposal: To be determined by the-licensing authority.
- This registration sheet and the information contained within the references shall not be changed without the written consent of the NRC.

SUMMARY
Based on our review of the information and test data cited below, we conclude that the TT155 design is acceptable possession by the custom user.
