Dear Mr. Doyle:

- ~"-~" ' Oh%ftey 12,1996, yet contactedRichardEachofstrst5tf'yItidfo'kIsd" b
informed him that my letter to you dated February 9,1996, did not fully i
address your questions.
You indicated that g letter did not address whether qualification requiremenf, practice to use NRRPT registration as afor health physics it is a standard industry plants. This letter is i ntended to answer that question.
Registration by the NRAP1 is not generally a licensee qualification l
requirement for the position of HP technician at U. S. nucleer power plants.
Many licensees encourage their HP technicians to get NRRPT registered, especially senior HP technicians. At many plants a large percentage of the HP i
technicians are NRRPT redistered. Some licensees or contractors may set NRRPT registre. tion as a qualif cation requirement. However, there is na such NRC.
requirseent, and at leas3 some fully qualified HP technicians at nuclear power plants are not NRRPT reg lstered.
If you have any question s or additional information concerning the above, please do not hesitate t > contact us. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention.
Sincerely, l
(,
