ATWS Prevention and Mitigation Gentlemen:
Maine Yankee recently submitted our concept and schedule for modifications to prevent and mitigate the effects of an ATWS event, Reference (b). We have just begun the process of transforming the concept into a formal design change package. Although specific NRC approval of the concept and design are not required, we want to be assured that we have addressed any concerns or questions that you or any members of your Staff might have before we proceed too far down the road we have chosen.
Please provide us any comments you may have by January 1, 1986.
If we have not heard from you by that date, we plan to proceed with our detailed design so as not to delay our scheduled completion date.
